Indian-American educator and arts leader Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, along with her husband Ranjan Tandon, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) to establish the Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence. The endowment of ₹100 crore (about $11.5 M) will support the new school’s mission to advance AI research, education, and practical solutions. The MoU exchange took place on January 29, 2026, with India’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan present in New Delhi and India’s Ambassador to the U.S. Vinay Kwatra joining virtually.
Officials including India’s Secretary of Higher Education, IIMA Director Prof. Bharat Bhasker, and other senior leaders joined the event. Minister Pradhan highlighted the initiative as a key step toward India’s role as a global AI leader and praised the Tandon family’s philanthropic support. The school is envisioned as a hub for business-focused and translational AI, bringing together faculty, industry leaders, and policymakers to tackle real-world challenges through responsible AI.
